An Easter Prayer

April 17, 2006 · 4 Comments

This is a wonderful Easter prayer from DisciplesNow.com

Glory and praise to You, Risen Savior, for You bring light to our darkness, joy to our sorrow, and the fullness of love to our reluctant hearts.

Once and for all You have conquered sin and evil.  In the glory of Your Resurrection we have been set free from all that keeps us from following You.

In this Easter season, fill our hearts with Your Light and Grace that we might joyfully echo the words of Your Holy Angels:

He is not here in the tomb:
He is risen!
Alleluia!  Alleluia!

Amen.

Was looking for an Easter Prayer and was drawn in by your web name. What a great discovery and website. The prayer is well done and not too overtly Christian, which is important for me, as I work for a Catholic hospital, but must be sensitive to all other faith traditions within our walls.

A good prayer. I certainly do not agree with the above mail which mentions about being sesitive to other religions in a hospitals settings. No person is imposing anything on anyone. A prayer is supposed to be opening your heart to God and to be in oneness with the creator. If that has restrictions then there is no meaning in being in a christian country and being christian.
Middle East countries call themselves as Islamic and India as Hindu nation. Where do we stand???

I like this prayer, but as a teenager I find it a bit too imposing. Can you write a prayer which conforms more to a teenage or child’s mind, as well as appeals to an adult as, reading this poetic prayer I feel touched, warm, but also slightly embarrassed, and unsure whether to laugh, as the obvious emotion is slightly too overwhelming for a typical teenage personality to be able to deal with. On the other hand, this prayer does convey the resurrection of Jesus exceptionally well.

I think the prayer is a very good one. With all due respect to those who feel that it is “overtly Christian” or “not sensitive to other religions” or “overly imposing” – THEN DON’T PRAY IT!! No one is going to force you too. It’s not imposing anything on you! Relax – take a deep breath and become tolerant of Christians as you are of Muslims orJews or Hindus or Buddists.
Easter is a CHRISTIAN CELEBRATION. If you want to have a secular “spring break” instead, thats your perogative. In America you’re not forced to participate in any religion because all religions are tolerated (not suppressed, but tolerated) But an Easter prayer is inherently CHRISTIAN. If a Muslim was to say or write a Yom-ul-Haj prayer – then it would naturally be overtly Islamic by nature. I should not be offended if a Muslim wants to say an Islamic prayer – that is what I would expect a Muslim to do. The same with Christians and other faiths.
Easter is about the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, and nothing else.

The challenge is to live in peace with other religions. Don’t be “offended” “embarressed” “overly sensitive” when people express their faith – that is what’s great about this country : freedom of speech, freedom of religion, among other things.
